Block Island Destination Wedding Venues: the Atlantic Inn

Block Island is one of our favorite locations for a destination wedding. Block Island destination wedding venues need to be able to accommodate your guests and create a little intimacy for your guests for the weekend. Pick a location that’s walking distance to town, still tucked away off the main roads, and can accommodate your guests with a few different options.

Block Island Destination Wedding Venues

How does someone even begin to explain this little 3×7 mile island? Put the phone away, sip coffee carelessly in patios and fall asleep on the beach in the morning. It’s a place to relax, unwind, and connect.

Getting to Block Island

Pick two options, as there are really only two: fly or sail. Either take flights out of Westerly (free parking, plus a 10 minute ride), or go full traditional and take the ferry (there’s so many options). Sail out of Newport, or Point Judith Rhode island or New London Connecticut.

What to do when on Block Island

There are so many options for things to do, either by yourself or with a group. Do yoga with animals at the 1661 Inn Farms, or hike any of the hundreds of trails covering the 64% of the island that’s considered conservancy land. Or just head to the beach from sunrise to sunset.

Whether there’s sun or bitter rain, there’s plenty to do on the island.

Favorite Block Island Restaurants

If you’re looking for a fab place for the family, Calaveras is the perfect location for a fun get together. Take over the outdoor patio for a welcome dinner or good bye brunch. Order authentic, casual, most importantly delicious Mexican food over looking the harbor.

Hosting a Destination Wedding at the Atlantic Inn

Brad and Ann Marthens make hosting a destination wedding at the Atlantic Inn easy peasy. With ample guest rooms and rentals, close to other hotels, the Inn has plenty of room for all of your friends and family. Walking distance to town, but tucked away in an intimate location, the Atlantic Inn is a perfect option for a destination wedding on Block Island.

Guest Rooms at the Atlantic Inn

The rooms are unique, historic rooms in this immaculately preserved Inn. If a guest room doesn’t quite meet someone’s needs, any of the rental properties on site will fulfill any need. There are options with air conditioning and private baths, ocean views or island views.

Atlantic Inn Ceremony Flowers

The Inn makes having beautiful ceremony flowers super easy. The front lawn is immaculately manicured with gorgeous hydrangeas that bloom all summer long.

Must Haves: Raw Bar at the Atlantic Inn

You must do a raw bar during your wedding reception at the Atlantic Inn. Use any of the many oyster companies on island — ask for suggestions from Brad or Ann for who has the best raw bar.

What to do for a Wedding Weekend on Block Island

With an in-town location, there are so many options to fill your weekend schedule for your destination wedding. (Or don’t fill it and just spend every moment at the beach…).

A Friday to Sunday wedding

Welcome your friends and family with a beach bonfire on any of the island’s beaches. Bring in take out from any of the island restaurants (hello Sushi Bob!) and hang out with everyone until you see the stars above you.

Start the next morning with yoga or kayaking on the Harbor Pond. You could also do a bird walk or a beach walk to start the day out relaxing and connecting with friends and family. Celebrate after your reception ends with a bar crawl to Kittens, Mohagany Shoals and Nick’s.

At your goodbye brunch, you could host it at the Inn or take everyone out to Rebecca’s on the Dock in New Harbor. Let the kids check out the boats, or play corn hole while you enjoy Bloody Marry’s.

Welcome bonfire to playing with alpacas

On island there is so much to do you could fill a summer full of activities and showing off the beauty and wonders of the island. Take the guys fishing, while the ladies head to the spa. Check out the farmer’s market before your wedding, or check out the alpacas during your wedding portraits.

Extend the weekend to a wedding week with your family

One of my favorite ways to do a destination wedding on Block Island is to have your closest family and friends out for the full week to spend some intimate time with them. Have everyone else come out Friday to Sunday while you have some serious chill time with your family Sunday to Thursday.
