Vermont is known for its epic views, mountains, foliage, and beautiful nature. Nothing is more true of both ECHO and Shelburne Farms. Both locations offer historic Vermont experiences, which I think is a big part of why Kelsey and John chose the two locations for their wedding and engagement session.
Stretching over Echo Lake is Echo Lake Inn, a historic property just south of Burlington. A newer wedding venue, it’s also a fresh face in a sea of barn venues and historic inns. A modern space, with a touch of nature from the lake and architectural touches around the wedding venue, it’s located right in the heart of Burlington, steps from multiple gorgeous hotels.
Overlooking Lake Champlain in Shelburne, the farm is one of my favorite locations for walking trails and hiking trails, with a working farm and farm store right on site. It’s the perfect location for an afternoon picnic, or an all-day adventure. With brown swiss cows and Jacob sheep, it’s great to be able to take your children or family to the park areas and lakes trail throughout the spring, summer, and fall.
A nonprofit education center, Shelburne Farms is also a national historic landmark. Taking one look at the barn, or the view from the highest point in the trails, and you’ll know immediately why. There’s nothing like the view over Lake Champlain in Shelburne Vermont — mountains stretching behind the shores of Lake Champlain.
A historic property, from 1886-1902, William Seward and Lila Vanderbilt Webb combined 32 farms into a 3,800-acre agricultural estate. The property boasts so much — from the onsite bakery, and farm-made cheddar cheese to fields and fields of dandelions and wildflowers.
As a photographer I could easily do hundreds of sessions at Shelburne Farms and each one of them look a little different. The location offers so much diversity and so many options for photos, just take a different trail every time you go. For a couple who loves nature, and is having a wedding in the mountains, this such a great location as it overlooks the mountains of Vermont.
The Inn at Shelburne Farms boasts a historic property with meticulous gardens. You could easily spend some of your engagement session enjoying the porches, and gardens that the Inn has to offer.
When it comes to what to wear, that truly is up to you. This isn’t the magazine cover of People or Voge and truly this engagement session is about YOU so wear what makes you feel most comfortable.
