Learn all about this fav Los Angeles wedding venue from a Los Angeles wedding photographer. The Ebell of Los Angeles is the perfect spot for a large wedding with a touch of glam.
In the heart of Los Angeles on Wilshire Avenue, you’ll find the Ebell of LA. Southern California is known for historic properties, and Hollywood glam — the Ebell gives you a flair of all things SoCal. With tons of natural light, large event spaces, and plenty of beautiful, unique spaces for wedding photos, the Ebell is one of our favorites for your special day.

Every LA wedding is going to touch a bit on all that Orange County has to offer. When wedding planning, you’ll find tons of unique wedding venues in LA, with lots of options for you and your boo thing. Take a few hints from a wedding photographer based in Los Angeles (at least for the winter), and definitely check out this wedding venue for your love story.
There are a few tricks to Los Angeles wedding photography — traffic, and production schedules being one. With the Ebell a safe distance from Hollywood, and with plenty of hotels around the corner, you’ll avoid some of these challenges to LA weddings.

Knowing how light works is key as a photographer in Los Angeles. The sun hits just a bit brighter than out on the East Coast making it a little challenging to photograph if you don’t realize it. Understanding how to make the best out of nothing is also key in Los Angeles — you can be in a gorgeous venue and have very limited options for photography locations. Thankfully the Ebell has plenty and the neighborhood is *chef’s kiss*.
The Ebell of Los Angeles has two ballrooms, a garden courtyard, an art salon, and a theatre for your special day. With so many expansive spaces you can host all of your weekend’s events at the Ebell while feeling like each one is in a new space.
Check out some of our favorite LA hotels for your getting-ready spaces + guests. We’re huge fans of the Ace Hotel in Downtown LA, Hotel Indigo, Downtown LA Proper Hotel, the Hoxton, and the Standard — all about a 20-minute drive, or $18 uber away. Each has swanky hotel rooms, with rad hotel bars, and rooftop pools. With varying pricepoints definitely check each out to find one that fits the bill for your guests.

If you’re opting to get ready in a hotel or Airbnb nearby, know that there is a getting ready suite at the Ebell. The suite is perfect to hop into your wedding attire — honestly it would be dope to take to the streets in your wedding day robes and PJs all done up for a few pictures. And then after get right into your wedding attire for a first look in the theatre, or the courtyard.
With all of the basics included — catering + bartending — you’ll be looking for two less vendors with the Ebell of Los Angeles. The spaces can be broken down into smaller settings, or take the first floor exclusive and rent all four spaces, using them for ceremony, cocktail hour, and then dinner — with the dining space holding up to 170 with a dance floor.

Let’s chat wedding vendors at the Ebell of Los Angeles a bit:
We LOVE photographing and videoing weddings here. Highly recommend using photographers and videographers who are familiar with the property or having them do a site walk through or the rehearsal just to get a feel for it all. It’s a super stunning venue that deserves thoughtful and curious photographers/videographers.
With so much that can be broken down and set up hiring at least a day of coordinator is really important. There are quite a few who are familiar with the property but I’m absolutely impressed with the way that Carol Lee of CCL Weddings has worked with our clients at the Ebell. The timeline, documentation, and visuals provided to our team were impressive and allowed us to really hammer out how we’re going to move through the wedding day. Having so much thoughtful communication makes it so easy to have a Plan A, B, and C for the wedding day for every piece of the day, as well as figure out stunning places to have portraits as we move through the day.

For hair and makeup I would certainly look into Angeleno Beauty, Emily Lynn + Co, and Martin Nepton (a queer hairstylist). All three are well versed, and capable with great reviews and portolios! It’s important to hire and have a trial with hair and makeup artists. It’s a great opportunity for your engagement sessions, or engagement party.
Whether you go wtih a dj or band will be a big question. This space deserves a band, that’s clear and obvious to me! The old time feel, the entertainment of a band. LA has so many bands and DJs I definitely recommend doing some research, listening to some music, seeing folks live if you can, and choosing that way.
Have you been out to Santa Monica before? It’s the perfect spot for a SoCal engagement session — check out this blog about all the best locations for a Santa Monica engagement session.
